Fashion Alchemy

Fashion design is a form of alchemy. A garment that starts as a set of inspirations takes form as an assembly of cut, patterned, and sewn textiles, which on its wearer expresses an entirely new set of meanings. Like brushstrokes or sculpture, the tactile sum of draping, color, cut, and embellishment exists suspended between physical craft and ethereal fantasy. It’s the most elemental challenge an artist faces: how to capture a mood, a sensibility, or an idea through manipulated materials.

Erdem Moralioğlu pulls off this transformation with immense skill and sensitivity. The London-based designer is the kind we think of when we think about “fashion designers”. A couturier in the mold of Yves Saint Laurent or Christian Lacroix, who evokes a complete vision of glamour and femininity through a deeply sophisticated understanding of design and materials. It’s a near truism that great fashion makes you dream, but in Erdem’s case it’s completely accurate.

The Collection

Final Thoughts

The key to this modern & timeless concept of fashion is...

- A clean sense of proportion and cut.

- Find the wimsey of volume and scale.

- The nod to the artistry that is at the heart of couture. 

All of these things come together to make this a pivotal collection for me as we move into Fall 2015.

It is all about the "statement coat" for me this fall/winter 2014 season.  The house of Valentino Men's, under the design direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri is taking men's couture to a whole new level.

This Tweed Patchwork is Genius!!!! The asymmetrical placement is everything!

Bonded Laser-Cut Leather is all about the mix of Technology & Couture!

I love texture in vibrant color!

The only Fur Bomber you will ever need!

I "give a hoot" for this Owl motif patchwork coat!

This coat soars above the rest as my stand-out favorite!!! It's the classic color with the twist on tradition.  I love to see this kind of whimsy in a modern mans wardrobe!!!

Details, Details, Details!!!

I think that these are some of the best examples of the season all rolled into one collection. It's about the amazing craftsmanship of couture and the new technologies in construction and design. 

The mix for this collection is modern, confident, elegant, and CHIC!

Piccioli and Grazia-Chiuri are setting the bar high, and I cannot wait to see what's next from this team!
