This was a very controversial collection for a lot of my fashion friends and colleges. But I feel like this latest collection was all about a true changing of the guard. Sara Burton has made a statement about where and how this brand will evolve while still embracing the spirt of its namesake. I know a lot of devotees are not going to like this, but the "winds of change" have come to the House of McQueen.

The inspiration for Spring/ Summer 2014 comes from a mix of primitive shapes, graphic forms, bold color, and modern proportions. While the silhouettes suggest the clean lines and dropped waist of the twenties. Many different types of embellishments and decorative techniques were used that gave a nod to a variety of cultures and periods in our collective history. As well as metallic elements that spoke to the future. For me this type of cross culturalism defies global identification and elevates the aesthetic.
The overall look was both simple  and complex, Clean and mind blowingly detailed.

Back Stage : Beauty & Detail Shots

There are kilts, leggings, biker jackets, boxy coats and tunic tops all feature with a nod to the uniform and sportswear. Shoulders are relaxed. Inner structures are absent from the structure of garments to give a lightness that is pure and modernism.

Metal embellishment in jewelry and heavy bracelets highlight different geometric forms. Triple layer box pleats, flocking, perforation and feather embroideries are all key details of the collection. Traditional silk-screen printing and beadwork are elaborate but the overall effect remains graphic and fresh.

Final Thoughts

While I will always wonder what Lee McQueen would have done next and how he would have move fashion forward. Sara Burton is at the helm now. This is her ship to sail in the fashion direction that she sees fit.

I'm fascinated with what she is doing. And I for one, am interested is seeing where she is going with this brand. I live for fashion as art and she is one of the best!!!

Until next time...
Wishing you F, G, &E: Fashion, Glamour, and Excitement.
